Rap mogul Jay-Z performed a medley of songs on SNL wearing a Bess NYC Jimmy vest ($1,650) in black. This leather vintage style vest features a zip front and brass studs on the collar, shoulder epaulets, arm openings, belt and lower back. It seems that leather vest jackets are all the craze right now.
Jay-Z covers the May 2010 issue of UK Esquire and Jonathan Ross does the cover story. Check out an excerpt below of what Jonathan had to say about Hov.
“Musically I think he has brilliant arranging skills. The way he puts
different words , sounds and textures together is anything but
straightforward and more complex than it appears.
Although the message is different, its a bit like the first time I heard
Public Enemy. There’s clearly an intelligence at work in his lyrics (and I like “the beats”, as the kids say).
’99 problems’ sums up that deceptive simplicity he has. It sounds like an almost asinine statement, but it works perfectly in the rhyme that’s repeated. Whether you want to take it on face value or whether you want to take it as someone who’s being boastful. It’s like a movie pitch in one line.”
Jay has just embarked on the first part of his European tour, so if you’re overseas, get out and see him. The issue is available on newsstands now.
Jay-Z was recently spotted out in Miami with his wife Beyonce wearing a Balmain Crest Button Down shirt ($698) in blue from their Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The shirt features military style epaulets, two front chest pockets, and a Balmain crest below the left chest pocket. If you can remember, Balmain launched their first menswear collection for Fall/Winter 2009.
Jay-Z was spotted performing his hit song “Empire State of Mind” with Alicia Keys at the 2010 Brit Awards in London. He was wearing a Rick Owens Oily Calfskin Leather jacket ($2,947), which features a large collar and an asymmetrical zipper. And Jay was rocking a pair of his favorite Oliver Peoples Daddy B sunglasses ($325).
Jay-Z was spotted court-side in his favorite pair of sunglasses, the same pair he has on almost 95% of the time, the Oliver Peoples Daddy B sunglasses ($325) in black. The Daddy B shades are 70s-retro unisex sunglasses hand-sculpted in a slightly over-sized Mod shape which are available in vintage-inspired colors. What sets them apart is the miniature pin-detail accents on the frame front and a distinctive keyhole bridge on the right. He was also seen wearing the Louis Vuitton Street Sneaker boot ($645), featuring Damier embossed patent calf leather. Jay-Z is a business genius, it’s interesting watching him on his quest to takeover the industry.
